World Athletics use Watch Party feature for U20 Championships

Across five days World Athletics streamed their U20 Championships exclusively to their website using Reactoo’s watch together technology.

The World Athletics U20 Championships took place at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on 18th to 22nd August with the best junior athletes from more than 100 countries competing. 

As the young athletes were competing in unusual circumstances this year without friends, family and fans in attendance, World Athletics added Reactoo’s Watch Party feature to enable supporters to watch live and cheer together to create a truly interactive experience. 

Fans wanting to host their own private virtual room created a free World Athletics account, then used the “Add Friend” option to get a unique link to share with whoever they wanted to watch the event with.  Up to four friends could join any room via video and audio to watch the livestream and join in using the text chat feature. Viewers from around the world were able to watch the five day event, whilst seeing and chatting with others in their room to create, despite the frustrating travel restrictions, a real sense of participation and excitement.
